Benecel dental dressing is made from biocompatible regenerated cellulose and contains no additives. Benecel adheres to moist oral mucosa and forms a barrier, protecting the wound from further irritation and pain. The material dissolves in a few days and is safe if swallowed. When placed in an extraction socket, Benecel forms a gelatinous scaffold in blood extrudate, facilitating the development of a stable blood clot to prevent dry socket formation. Hemostasis is often acheived within 100-120 seconds.
Benecel is suitable for use as a wound dressing in extraction sites and the management of alveolar osteitis ( dry socket ), and may be used as a wound dressingt for the temporary management of oral surgical wounds, such as operative, post operative, donor sites, and traumatic injuries. Other wound care uses include management of oral lesions, including sores, ulcers, and injuries, such as cuts, lacerations and abrasions of the oral mucosa.
